Brighton & Hove City Council is recruiting to a number of IT and digital roles. The Council is well into a multi-year programme of organisational modernisation, including renewal of core IT platforms and infrastructure, digital innovation and many business change programmes and projects in which IT is a key partner. We are also establishing close ties with East Sussex County Council and Surrey County Council through the Orbis partnership, which provides professional and technical support services for its partner organisations. We are an ambitious and forward looking IT department with skills in a range of enterprise technologies and digital delivery practices. Working in a fast paced environment, in the heart of the City and close to the seafront, these roles offer great opportunity for gaining substantial professional and technical experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join our established ICT Schools & Traded Services Team. We are looking for a flexible, dynamic professional with impressive SIMS skills and knowledge, considerable exposure to school/education business processes and a strong commitment to Customer Service to lead a dedicated and talented team of SIMS and Customer Service professionals working with the City's schools and other customer organisations. We need a results focused manager who can influence the future direction of our support service and for whom continuous service improvement comes as second nature. You will have wide ranging and in-depth SIMS (Expert User) knowledge, either from working in a school or in a SIMS support team, coupled with excellent communication skills and a track record of achievements in a management role. You should have good all round ICT "superuser" skills and an ability to investigate and problem solve, as well as experience of developing and supporting others in using SIMS and complementary desktop systems or software. A good knowledge of the MS Windows desktop operating system, file management/data handling and MS Office/365 are also required, and any exposure to the ITIL framework and the IT support environment is an advantage. You should be able to demonstrate that you can initiate and lead projects; and, as our customer base and service portfolio develops and we start to work in partnership with neighbouring local authorities, that you can negotiate with and influence internal and external stakeholders. This is a rapidly changing support environment, so your adaptability to change, creativity and an eye for opportunities to develop the service are as important as your ability to support and develop your team and keep business as usual work on track.
