Role Overview:

The Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor will be responsible to the Head of Health & Safety operating in the South from our regional office at Winterpick.

Main Purpose of Job:

The role will be to work with MGJV management teams to deliver the health, safety & environmental targets and objectives of the MGJV Southern Water Framework, in line with the health, safety & Environmental objectives of our parent companies, Morrison Utility Services LTD and Galliford Try Construction; in order to meet the requirements of our Client, Southern Water.

This role will include delivering both proactive and reactive strategies, site inspections and programmes to reduce incidents at site and office, It will involve regular interaction with our supply chain and both our on & off site staff to develop safe and healthy working relationships. Advise sites on Project-specific health, safety and environment issues. Actively identify areas for improvement and contribute to plans aimed at reducing the occurrence of incidents. Ensure that site teams are proactive, up to date and comply with current health, safety and environmental legislation, best practice and Company standards.

The role although site based will be centred from our Winterpick (East Sussex) office covering MGJV projects across the whole Southern Water infrastructure area. The individual will report to the project Head of HS&E with operational reporting to the framework manager.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supports pre-qualification process of sub-contractors
- Provides technical and specialist HSE support to line and site management
- Monitors Site compliance with statutory HSE responsibilities and the business management system
- Assists in development and implementation of key road maps or improvement plans
- Reviews project Construction phase plans (CPP), Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Reviews Site Procedures and practices as required and report to the management team as appropriate
- Undertake monthly SSER Audits at each designated site, record findings, advise management as appropriate and conducts follow up HSE visits or audits within designated timescales
- Conduct incident investigation to identify root cause and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence, produce and manage incident reports in designated timescale
- Assist with the production of month end reports in a timely manner

Reports to framework management teams at core office locations on a regular basis and attends meetings as required for and on behalf of MGJV.

Qualifications and Experience:


- Relevant HS&E experience in a similar industry (Water Infrastructure or Civil Engineering / Construction)
- IT Literate - with experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel and use of the internet
- NEBOSH construction cert (and / or NEBOSH general cert with construction experience)
- Hold a full driving licence


- Experience of working with framework agreements in Water and Wastewater
- Civil Engineering and construction background
- Member of IOSH or IIRSM (TechIOSH as a minimum)
- CMIOSH or Working towards
- Diploma NVQ Level 3 or above

Knowledge or awareness of behavioural safety programmes

Excellent IT skills - with experience of using Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and use of the internet
