This opening is in the newly created Data Science Lab within the Legal Technology Solutions area and, as such, the role holder will be conversant in a range of information and data science technologies to support the implementation of the Data Science Lab and its integration with other portfolios.

In cooperation with product management, the solution architect plays a critical role in helping align teams in a common technical direction toward accomplishment of the mission, vision and roadmap.

Define data requirements and participate in design reviews. Define information/data flows, information/data delivery architecture and information/data tools. Work in partnership with other Solution and Domain Architects to design the common user view of information at user touch points and help develop the user Information Model. Work with Business and Application owners to review business drivers, needs and strategies and assess the implications to the information/data architecture. Identify, assess, and document business requirements for information/data/security and advise the business on options, risks, and costs versus benefits. Communicate business data prioritisation decisions to the relevant stakeholders.

Diagram the complete flow of data from source to target. Work with application and database designers to develop the logical data model and ensure efficient flows of information through business processes. Provide inputs to development teams to develop applications that address the exchange of data between heterogeneous systems. Assist in the creation and successful execution of testing scenarios that ensure the information/data flows according to the information architecture design. Proactively identify and validate opportunities to share/re-use existing information/data where possible.

Work in cross-discipline teams that truly take a system view on solution development. Participate in definition of higher-level functional and non-functional requirements, analyse technical trade-offs, determine the major components and subsystems, and define the interfaces and collaborations between them.

Understand solution context and work with the teams, customers and suppliers to help ensure fitness for the Firm environment. Understand complexities of large-scale solution development and apply Lean & Agile practices to address them where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in planning, definition and high-level design of the solution and explore solution alternatives.
Define subsystems and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities to subsystems, understand solution deployment and communicate requirements for interactions with solution context.
Work with customers, stakeholders and suppliers to establish high level solution intent; help establish the solution information models and documentation requirements.
Establish critical non-functional requirements at solution level, participate in definition of others.
Operate within the economic framework to validate the financial impact of design decisions.
Work with portfolio stakeholders (in particular the Domain Architect and Product Manager), to develop, analyse, split and realise the implementation of Enabler epics.
Participate in Release Planning activities, system and solutions demos, and inspect & adapt events.
Define, explore and support the implementation of value streams and program (we call these "Portfolios") enablers to evolve solution intent; work directly with Agile teams to implement, explore or support them.
Plan and develop the architectural runway in support of upcoming business features/capabilities.
Work with Product Management to determine capacity allocation for enablement work (we have default rules to ensure we have capacity allocation to both business epics as well as Enabler epics).
Support technology/engineering aspects of program and value stream Kanbans.
Foster built-in quality and security.
Joint responsibility with Product Manager to maintain the Portfolio roadmap.
Be part of the extended Product Management Team (including Business Stakeholders, Product Manager, Domain Architect, GPG portfolio manager).

Skills and Qualifications


Technical expertise in a range of information and data science technologies.
Ideally, knowledge of Microsoft Azure technologies.
Logical Data Modelling.
Solid understanding of relevant information system technologies and development life cycles, such as open messaging platforms and various database platforms.
Extensive senior stakeholder management skills.
Excellent communicator, able to motivate, coach and mentor a strong technical team.
Knowledge of architecture frameworks and methods such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and the ability to develop and maintain personal architectural knowledge, skills and abilities.


Previous experience of working for a global professional service environment or corporate organisation such as finance/banking.
Apply as needed our Project Delivery framework practices and Scaled Agile practices (including waterfall projects delivery methods).
Practical experience of working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment is preferable.
Practical experience of working with Lean & Agile delivery tools such as Agile Central (or other similar tools e.g. JIRA) is preferable.
Experience of solution architecture tools and techniques.
Experience of working with multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.


Educated to degree level in a Computing or business discipline or equivalent.

Written and Verbal Communications

Highly developed written communication skills and capable of producing global and sensitive communications to a varied audience at all levels in both Practice Areas and Business Services.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills - some form of customer-facing interaction or consulting experience is a plus.
