Clients are at the centre of everything we do at Herbert Smith Freehills and the Business Development group supports the partnership in creating and implementing strategies that maximise revenue generation from new and existing clients. This includes working with lawyers to deepen and widen global client relationships; measuring performance against targets; exploring, evaluating and responding to opportunities to enhance the firm's position and cross-selling the firm's services. Relationship building:Develop strong relationships with the partners, fee earners and PSLs in the global Disputes practice so that you are viewed as a trusted advisor and can maximise business opportunitiesDevelop a solid understanding of your groups' specific practice areas as well as the wider Disputes practice and the firmDevelop equally strong relationships across BD so that you can connect effectively your practices with the wider network Strategy and planning:Prepare and implement business development plansProvide advice to the Disputes partners to develop and implement their business development strategyWork with the Disputes associates to strengthen their BD skillsDevelop presentations and documents that provide high level overview of practice/sector plans and achievementManage distinct additional firm-wide or practice projects as required Pitches, proposals and capability statements:Liaise with partners and BD colleagues across the global network on drafting practice and firm-wide pitches, proposals and capability statementsProject manage all aspects of tender responses, pitches and capability statements, including drafting material and obtaining input from various contributorsDevelop strong key selling messages for pitches and submissionsParticipate in/assist with the rehearsal of the pitch teamManaging communications including the debrief process internally and externally CRM & key client activities:Keep abreast of client issues to enable pro-active identification of business opportunities and assist the partners to pursue themPromote and participate in the client listening programmePrepare innovative materials for clientsProject manage client events including active participation in them and meeting clientsDevelop the BD skills of the practice lawyers and raise awareness of BD servicesWork with the CRM team to present a joined up approach to the partner and the client Targeting:Undertake research and analysis to identify targets for practice/sector and take responsibility for targeting initiativesIdentify and co-ordinate cross-selling opportunities with other practice areas, sector specialists and relationship partnersOrganise targeting teams and their BD activities, take responsibility for actionsIdentify products/services to introduce to targets and sell to others your suggestions Reputation enhancement, brand & profile:Project manage the development of marketing collateral with design and production teamPrepare legal directories and award submissions for the practiceLiaise with the PR /communications team on all media and PR opportunities for practice/ sector/ regionLiaise with fee earners, PSLs and knowledge management on articles for external publications and on content for client materials Management of information, projects and budgets:Mentor/manage any junior team membersManage the content and development of various business development databasesContribute ideas to improving processes and systems within the team and take responsibility for such projectsSupport production and development of internal and external newsletters and bulletinsManage events from start to finishFacilitate budgeting for specific events/campaigns and ensure suggested BD activities reflect best return on investment for the practiceAnalyse outcomes against costs and recommend changes as appropriateQualifications, Skills & Experience:Bachelor's degree (or similar) in relevant area preferred5+ years of business development/marketing experience in a corporate or partnership environment preferred, preferably with knowledge and experience of dispute resolution, although will consider candidates with less experience providing they meet the required competenciesDemonstrated experience in building strategic relationships, managing clients and pursuing new businessExperience of managing key client events preferableStrong project management skills. Sound organisational, planning and project administrative skillsAbility to confidently communicate and deal with partners/ managers/ staff and clientsProfessional and commercial approach to business
