What is the opportunity?
Associate Director, Group Risk Management ITS UK is responsible for providing independent and objective oversight of the management of significant risks arising from RBC Investor and Treasury Services Businesses in the UK and functions supporting the Business, across legal entities and branches in support of ITS Business, that is inclusive RBC IS Bank London branch and RBC IS Trust London Branch. The incumbent will partner with the Business to facilitate the implementation the Operational Risk Framework and ensure sound operational risk management across RBC I&TS UK.

What will you do?
  • Articulate / formalise the design of the RBC Operational Risk Framework locally as required; and provide oversight to RBC I&TS Business / Functions and Ops Control (hereafter 'the Business') to ensure risk management practices are aligned to such Operational Risk Management Framework.
  • Ensure a clear operational risk appetite is set by the business, and ongoing monitoring of the operational risk profile against the stated appetite.
  • Oversight of the 1st line of defences' risk and control self-assessments. Review the Platform-level and business-unit level risk assessments' (RCSAs) results to ensure they provide an accurate view of the Operational Risk exposure. Also challenge, on a judgemental (risk-based) basis, conclusions of Process RCAs.
  • Conduct deep dives on most significant internal operational risk events. For these, ensure internal event reporting is complete and appropriate actions are identified. Review of applicable external events for operational risk lessons learnt. Review of external ORX industry data to identify trends and themes.
  • Actively participate in Business Initiative acceptance process and/or perform due diligence as applicable. Participate in project governance committees (NBC, DRC) as required. Ensure that existing and emerging risks for new products, processes and transformational initiatives are identified and adequately reflected in the business unit risk profile.
  • Leverage on Business unit's Risk Reporting and other sources/assessments to form an independent opinion and report accordingly to Boards and Committees where required (as driven by legal entities / regulatory requirements), including the preparation of meeting materials and topical presentations.
  • Review the Key Risk Indicators produced by the business. Challenge that appropriate KRI are being used and thresholds are relevant.
  • Facilitate the process for the annual regulatory operational capital management assessment for underlying legal entities as required. Gather and prepare documentation and obtain appropriate signoff. Contribute to the analysis of risk and impact on capital requirements where appropriate (e.g. ICAAP).

What do you need to succeed?

  • General Investor and Treasury Services business knowledge, having worked directly in one of related business areas or a functional team supporting one
  • Risk Management experience within First or Second lines of defence
  • Good understanding of banking regulation, especially relating to risk management, highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and effective mitigation plans.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to produce concise and effective presentations.
