Role Overview:

Supporting the SPN & Faults Operational Accountant within the Network Operations directorate, you will be assisting with the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting (including Key Performance Information) across SPN and completing job costing analysis relating to Faults across all three of our DNO's.

Dimensions

Network Operations has an annual Gross Faults budget of approximately GBP120m, across the 3 DNO's and the Asset Portfolio Plan which is fundamental to this has over 100 individual lines which will need target costs to be calculated in line with the CU/APP Analyst team and Asset Management.

Not only will you generate improvements in terms of creating commercial analysis and improved communications, but you will create a consensus and mutual understanding between stakeholders, clear commitments, and improved efficiency. The position will require working in all three UKPN regions.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Assisting with the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts ensuring that these are compliant with both Internal Policies and Procedures and the relevant Regulatory guidelines.
- Take full ownership and responsibility of the Faults job costing database and make continuous improvements.
- Assisting in driving best in class improvements to the process of producing monthly financial reports, actively support the participation of continuous improvement regarding costs and volumes to participate in cross DNO reviews to compare unit costs, understand the reasons for variances and work with the business to improve efficiency.
- To assist with identify opportunities and areas for attention & recommend options for action - including areas of cost reduction and best practice governance and controls.
- Produce, analyse and report both day-to-day and ad-hoc data as and when required to support decision making within Network Operations and wider UK Power Networks.
- Make recommendations as necessary to improve the system of internal controls and act accordingly when requested.

Nature and Scope:

This is a professional role which includes liaising throughout the business, communicating with non-financial managers and external parties. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills and a professional attitude to work and those you deal with.

This position is part of the Operational finance team supporting the activities of the whole of Network Operations, with a particular focus on the Faults activities (within the 3 DNO's) and supporting SPN DNO. The post will be based at Crawley and report to the Faults Operational Accountant. However, the role may involve visits to other locations.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

- A part qualified accountant or with the appropriate experience.
- Good Excel Skills - Vlookups, Sumifs & Pivot Tables as a minimum
- Sound accounting skills
- Interpersonal skills that establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly
- Able to analyse and grasp a situation quickly and create well-reasoned solutions
- Effective communication skills - presents ideas and information in a way in which others are informed.
- Experience of dealing with non-financial managers would be beneficial for this position
- Knowledge of SAP and Bex
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have regular access to a car (willing to travel across the geographical areas of UK Power Networks where necessary)
