Description of the Business Line or Department

SG GBIS is the Global Banking and Investor Solutions arm of the Soci??t?? G??n??rale Group. Present in over 50 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia, SG GBIS provides corporate, financial institutions, investors and public sector clients with value-added integrated financial solutions.

The Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance team, of which the Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance Officer will be a key member, is dedicated to the ongoing, global implementation and management of the Volcker Rule and French Banking Law Compliance Program for the SG Group, with a dedicated focus on SG GBIS.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

The Compliance Department is looking for an experienced Compliance professional to join the SG Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance team.

• The position will be based in London or Paris, and sit within the Swap Dealer and Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance team.

• The ideal candidate will be versatile and enthusiastic, and will be required to work with various stakeholders throughout the business and various support functions;

• The candidate must have strong analytical skills and be practical and proactive in understanding how firm business practices, operations, and processes operate and evolve.

Summary of responsibilities

Provide ongoing support to the Global Volcker Rule Compliance Officer and his reports/the Global French Banking Law Compliance Officer and his/her reports, including:

o Recommend and implement (as applicable) changes to the Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance Program, relevant policies and procedures on an ongoing basis;

o Collaborate with Compliance review teams and other internal control functions to
continually evaluate, test and monitor the effectiveness of policies, procedures and
controls for SG Group divisions/entities;

o Contribute to and support the preparation of such periodic reports that the firm or Compliance
management must make, either to Volcker/French Banking Law governing bodies or relevant
regulatory authorities;

o Coordinate with the SAFE V/FBL Office.

Delegated responsibilities

• Review and analyze reports on metrics from in-scope trading desks;
• Assist in design and build of appropriate KPIs on Volcker Rule/French Banking Law effectiveness, including effectiveness of controls framework;
• Assist with/participate in effectiveness reporting;
• Review and analyze Volcker Rule/French Banking Law KPIs;
• Recommend controls to enhance the effectiveness of the Volcker Rule/French Banking Law Compliance Program;
• Design and provide advice on building associated controls;
• Review surveillance/exception reports, recommend and work with stakeholders and IT to produce enhancements;
• Draft Volcker Rule/French Banking Law-related procedures.

Level of Autonomy and Authority

• Vice-President/Associate level
• Ability to act under supervision within a formal team is essential



• Experience working within a large investment bank Compliance program
• Ability to project confidence and professionalism in all dealings with front office and control function personnel
• Strong research skills; analytical and problem solving skills; and attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Strong knowledge of regulations and Compliance requirements
• Self-motivated and ability to effectively multi-task
• Ability to identify, develop and recommend "best practices"
• Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective partnerships with colleagues and internal customers
• Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent writing skills

Work Experience

Experience across an investment bank or other financial institution with focus on regulatory compliance


• Bachelor's degree; Advanced degree in law or finance


• English
