Job purpose

At Oddschecker, our technology team are organised into a 'squad model', with each squad being closely aligned to one of our core products. This allows our developers to work in a fast paced environment, using the latest technology and allowing them to make an impact on our core products.

This is a chance to join our 25+ technology team, leading front end development in one of our core business areas. The role will be building and maintaining all Oddschecker web products, as well as working across mobile sites and also some of our client platforms.

In this position, you will be an integral member of the development team, responsible for managing and mentoring junior members of the front end team. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business, including product, design, marketing and senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage and mentor front end developers

* Work across all of our web products, working closely with product and business owners
* Take responsibility for the whole software development lifecycle for one of our core products
* Participate in estimation, planning, design and ideas stages
* Managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring continued delivery and product enhancements across one of our core products

Key characteristics and experience for the Lead Front End Developer

You should be a competent and engaging leader, able to work as part of a team. A self-starter who has a keen interest in sports and the betting industry.

Highly Desired

* Experience with either managing or mentoring junior developers
* Strong web development skills with experience in hand-coding HTML5, CSS3/SASS and JavaScript/jQuery
* React/Angular.js, ES6/Typescript
* Responsive web development
* XSLT 2.0 & XML
* Strong command of cross-browser development techniques
* Excellent understanding of, and interest in, usability issues
* Full understanding of W3C and web standards
* Skilled at building table-free layouts using semantic mark-up and CSS


* Agile development environment
* Experience in server side technologies (Java)
* Isomorphic/Universal web application experience
* Build tools e.g. Gulp, Webpack or Browserify
* Testing Frameworks e.g. Jest/Jasmine, Junit/Mockito, Selenium
* Distributed version control, e.g. Git, Mercurial
