The Role

To manage business development and marketing activities for their respective sector(s) / sub-sector(s) / practice area(s) in a way which promotes both the profile of that segment of the business, develops key account relationships and enables revenue growth. To be achieved through the development of clear strategies and business plans, and management of an aligned range of marketing campaigns, communications and key account activity. To directly manage resources within the BD team in order to ensure plans are delivered in a timely and efficient manner, and to the highest quality. To develop strong relationships with partners, lawyer and groups in the UK and internationally as appropriate to cause their active engagement with and support for the sector's business development programs.

The role encompasses all aspects of business development and marketing and may cover a range of business lines and practice areas and assumes a high degree of involvement with the partners and associates.

Key Responsibilities

• Development and implementation of business development and marketing campaigns, in line with sector business objectives and in consultation with sector and sub-sector groups

• Creation of effective sector and sub-sector groups and the management of their communication, marketing and client development programs

• Attendance and where required leadership of these sector group meetings, and the driving forward of their activities

• Management of an integrated marketing and client development plan for the sectors

• Creation and management of all marketing materials and activities in support of this agenda - whether brochures, directory submissions, web pages, newsletters, reports, web-pages, seminars, conferences etc

• Establishment and maintenance of up to date credentials information

• Creation of differentiating proposal materials and the management of pitch efforts

• Contribution to the firm's Key Account Program through identification of the sectors/practice area's key accounts, the establishment of client teams and the development and implementation of their plans

• Management of Business Development Executives' involvement in sector activities, ensuring they work to the highest standards and contributing through this to their development

• Together with the Senior Communications Manager, developing and implementing an appropriate media communications program and developing relationships with key journalists

• Contribution to the formulation of relevant business development budgets and monitoring of business development expenditure

• Maintenance of the operational standards of the Business Development team to ensure:

• our branding approach is implemented effectively

• communication materials effectively represent the positioning of each area

• the effective use of the Interaction and Vuture systems

• our approach to pitches is informed by sector knowledge and productive relationships with PSL's and other specialist resources

• the management of events is efficient and cost-effective

• PR strategies support business development plans and enhance campaigns

• The provision of support for the Senior Business Development Manager, Head of UK Business Development and the Business Development Director on other projects as directed

• It will be expected that the Junior Business Development Manager:

• Effectively support and communicate the key aims of the firm's business development agenda within their sector, assisting partners, lawyers and team members in maintaining an awareness of these aims and guiding their implementation

• Maintain an overview of the developments taking place in the firm and their market and communicate those developments to partners, lawyers and other team members

• Contribute to the continuing development of business development tools that support the implementation of our plans

• Exemplify the attributes that we wish to communicate to the market

Experience and Skills Required

• Educated to degree level (2:1 or above) or possesses equivalent experience

• Holds a professional marketing qualification, e.g. CIM/CAM (desirable)

• Experience of working as a Business Development practitioner within a fast-paced professional services environment, preferably within the legal industry, including:

• Developing and implementing business plans under the direction of senior managers

• Managing integrated and sector-focused marketing and client development plans

• Creating and managing marketing materials and activities to support the sector's agenda

• Managing pitch efforts and proposal materials

• Establishing and maintaining up-to-date credentials information

• Marketing communications experience with good copy writing skills and an understanding of branding and design and the production of promotional materials

• Experience of supervising and assisting in the coaching of junior team members is desirable

• Experience of monitoring expenditure and producing appropriate reports • Able to work closely with partners and associates and possesses the ability to influence key partners and decision making groups

• Strong IT skills with experience of CRM systems (preferably InterAction), Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities within tight timescales

• Able to work to very tight deadlines under pressure and to assimilate information quickly

• Strong interpersonal skills including confidence, positivity, diplomacy and the ability to gain credibility quickly

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrates attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

• Positive and tenacious with the ability to pro-actively drive initiatives forward and motivate resources within and outside their team to perform
