About the role
You would plan and deliver communications campaigns to create positive human rights change in the world. You'll bring advertising/marketing principles to the organisation that will help us excite people to get involved in change and allow Amnesty to grow as a movement.
You would work, for example, on one of the movement's two global campaigns - on refugees or protecting human rights defenders. Or you would be leading on something more short term or tactical like trying to free journalists in Turkey or opposing the latest retrograde move coming out of the White House. You will make human rights look more appealing and find novel ways of explaining why people should support them.
The campaigns you organise will engage as many members of the public around the world as possible. The work you create will be used and implemented by our national offices and will also be delivered directly by you, particularly digitally, into countries where we don't yet have a presence.
You'll be an important member of the international secretariat communications team at Amnesty, a team which comprises design, video, brand, digital engagement, news and media, and publishing. You will work closely with all these units to deliver game changing work.
Ideally you'll be from an advertising or marketing background and will have a trackrecord of at least five years working on campaigns which have created change. You will have solid political acumen, knowledge of international affairs, and have operated in many different global settings and cultures. Your writing will be sharp, you'll have an eye for the visual, and you'll be digitally native
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We reach almost every country in the world and have:
- more than 2 million members and supporters who drive forward our fight for rights
- more than 5 million activists who strengthen our calls for justice
Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they're denied. And whether we're applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we're all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
At Amnesty International, we are passionate about what we do and we are proud of our achievements as a movement. To compensate our employees for the critical work they do, we reward them through a combination of an attractive and sector competitive salary and benefits package, high levels of engagement and involvement, and a commitment to employee development.
Benefits include 37 days annual leave (inclusive of public holidays and grace days), pension scheme, employee assistance programme, life assurance and many more benefits designed to suit your own personal lifestyle. All of this, in a professional, engaging environment.
