Across the globe, an estimated eight million children live in orphanages and institutions. Most are there for a complex combination of reasons - poverty, disability, and a lack of access to health, education and social services. More than 80% of these children are not orphans, but have at least one living parent. They are deprived of the close, loving engagement that a family provides; their physical, intellectual and emotional development is harmed; and they are exposed to significant risk of abuse and neglect. These are some of the world's most disadvantaged children.

Lumos is an international NGO founded by J.K. Rowling working to end the institutionalisation of children globally by 2050. We believe this is a solvable problem and we have developed a model of 'deinstitutionalisation' to support countries to reform child care and protection systems. Lumos works with governments, UN agencies, civil society, and other partners to replace institutions with family and community-based services that provide children with access to health, education, and social care tailored to their needs. This support enables families to provide the care their children need to develop to their full potential.

As Lumos expands globally we need a range of skilled professionals to work in our diverse and international team to champion the rights of all children to grow up within a loving family. We are now seeking a dynamic Projects & Research Assistant to the CEO to join the team.
