This position reports to the Finance Manager Pensions and Insurance and is a key position accountable for business control and financial reporting for the business's pension financials.

This is a challenging opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their controller, project management and corporate finance skills. The role content is broad and cuts across all finance job families including accounting policy, both financial and MI reporting, control and analysis.

The skills developed in this post will provide great opportunity to enhance and expand a Finance professional's career development, in particular the ability to manage multiple interfaces and networks inside and outside the business. With reported assets in excess of $40bn and liabilities of almost $49bn for defined benefit pension plans and other postretirement benefits at y/e 2016, pensions accounting is a key area for the Group with keen senior management interest.

The role-holder coordinates across a broad, globally dispersed network of local finance and HR staff (across c30 people) and external actuaries (c10 people) and has responsibility for the annual pension accounting assumption setting process.

A key aspect of the role is to build strong working relationships with these teams and with the BP Finance teams in each country responsible for preparing the underlying accounts, ensuring that the accounting of pensions is done correctly in the countries quarterly group accounts feeds. Note that the duties of the Pensions Finance team involve virtually no direct transactional posting activity.


Example responsibilities include:

* Coordinate the annual pension accounting assumptions setting process with actuary firms and assist the Finance Manager in presenting the output to the Group Chief Accountant, CFO - Group Finance and Treasurer.
* Support presentation of pension accounting assumptions to group committees eg GFRC (Group Finance Risk Committee), MBAC (Main Board Audit Committee).

* Day to day management of Accounting, Reporting, Control & Assurance operations including:
* Support worldwide pension financial reporting
* MI reporting for Pensions forecasting (GFO, Plan and long term outlook). Ensure timely, accurate & reliable reports are provided to support decision making, underpinned by robust reporting & forecasting processes.
* Manage preparation of monthly pensions report and the daily assessment of funding levels for de-risking transactions.
* Lead internal control framework / SOX compliance (CET owner).
* Competitor Analysis
* M&A projects (pensions aspects): assisting Treasury and HR on commercial and financial reporting aspects.
* As required support investor relations and press office to respond to queries

You will be a chartered accountant with an initial background in public practice and possess an awareness of corporate treasury activities, and/or a successful track record in financial reporting, accounting policy in a blue chip business.
