UK Power Networks Services is the non-regulated part of UK Power Networks. This team develops, delivers and manages safe, sustainable and profitable high voltage electrical and multi-utility networks for owners of major infrastructure. UKPNS work with a range of high profile clients such as Heathrow Airport Limited, Stansted Airport Limited, GIP (London Gatwick Airport), High Speed 1, Network Rail, London Underground, Ministry of Defence, Docklands Light Railway, and Canary Wharf. We currently have an opportunity to join an exciting team in our HS1 Power System team and be responsible for the operational delivery of all maintenance and project activities to agreed quality, cost and time provisions for UKPN Services. JOB PURPOSE: The HS1 manager is accountable for managing the contractual operation and maintenance obligations of the HS1 contracts, ensuring the operations, meet all forms of legislative, regulatory, safety, quality, cost and time. You will be accountable for all the activities delivered by the team using the support of other Senior Management Team (SMT) to ensure complete integrity and contractual compliance. Youwill be accountable for and manage the client interfaces in matters concerning operational and project delivery. Focus on client delivery will be paramount and that a Key Account Management plan will be developed and administered for the HS1. Youwill also be accountable to the Head of Rail for all HS1 and Contractual Risk Management, Financial Management of Profit and Loss Accounts and Project Costs Control. As a member of the wider UKPN Services management team the candidate will be required to help grow the business both through the HS1, Network Rail ralationship and the wider market. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Organisation - Build a high performing and motivated team that is valued by all key stakeholders and is capable of successfully and safely delivering each activity to cost, time and quality - Ensures all direct reports have a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities in successfully delivering client facing activities. - Ensures all direct reports receive appropriate training to complete their activities, efficiently, effectively and safely - Manage resources to ensure on time delivery identifying any changes to people and equipment. Ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively Management - Regularly report programme level operational and project performance to Head of Client Delivery UKPN Services and with clients as appropriate. - Develop an effective working key account relationship with all key stakeholders - As necessary work with the wider Services Business. - Undertake additional activities commensurate with their job level and competency Processes - Accountability for managing the complete operational and project lifecycle. - Work with the SMT to develop and maintain the network lifecycle cost model, ensuring it has accurate technical and cost data and that the commercial impact of network change can be demonstrated to our clients by the model. - Develop a strategy and resource plan to manage the delivery of HS1 activities that ensure network performance targets are met. - Manage all projects and operational budgets to ensure that spend is kept within agreed budget (tolerance) and operate within the financial governance and reporting framework set out by the Director of UKPN Services. - Ensure all work is delivered to its agreed requirements specification and quality criteria and that this can be formally demonstrated to clients and the business. - Accountable for health, safety, welfare and environment performance and reporting for work delivery - Identify, monitor and control operational, project work changes to ensure work remains within agreed scope, cost, time, quality and risk requirements - Participate as necessary in contingency strategy planning development and actively participate in the event of the contingency plan being executed in a major event - Maintain a suitable project plan to; identify work owners, delivery timelines and task dependencies - Authorise all work to team and suppliers including the time allocated to complete activities - Ensure suppliers meet UKPNS governance requirements, are monitored for their performance and provide work to agreed quality levels, time and cost - Ensure plans are in place to deal effectively with supply failures and other incidents (including contingency planning) specifically: - Plans are tested and reviewed regularly - All staff are aware of their responsibilities and contribution - Outages are minimised - Incidents are dealt with effectively and safely - UKPNS's reputation for effective incident management is recognised by our clients Governance/ Policy Responsibilities: To provide operational governance of the following:- - All maintenance and project work carried out by the HS1; - Key account management and customer satisfaction of the client. - Services PG&C as project board member; - Services risk management controls and process; - Services Operations pricing strategy controls and process. Key Attributes for the person in the role: Essential: - Extensive experience at a senior level in management including bid development, key client management, commercial strategy development, financial and contract management and a broad knowledge of contracts. - Extensive knowledge and experience of business, project and contract risk management. - Experience in project management, quantity surveying, change control and cost management. - Excellent and well proven management and leadership skills. - Experience and extensive knowledge of stakeholder management with key client customers, sub contractor, consultants, supply chain and third parties. - Mature and well proven ability to communicate and present at all levels. Desirable: - Acquired a Degree/Post Graduate qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent - A broad understanding of CKI, UKPN and UKPNS various businesses. - An understanding and working knowledge of UKPNS PG&C process, goals and objectives. - Experience of UKPNS SAP system. - An understanding of risk evaluation techniques and experience in the use of estimating and analysis software such as Risk. - Advance or intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other bespoke software packages. - An ability to travel to visit any of the UKPN Services sites. - To possess strong and persuasive negotiating and influencing skills. - Ability to manage time and to meet deadlines. - To be skilful in decision making. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Proven analytical skills. Nature and Scope: The jobholder will be a key member of UKPN Services management team and must be able to work closely with management across UKPN Services and UKPN Directorate. The post holder will report to the Head of Client Delivery, and be responsible for the timely delivery of all commercial, and contractual support services at all the sites. The jobholder will have the necessary gravitas to routinely represent the company at operational and senior management level with external stakeholders. The job requires an individual with extensive experience of commercial and contractual management. The individual will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently, a good communicator with flexibility and an adaptable approach to problem solving is essential.
