A career at MI5 is like no other. It's our mission to keep the country and its people safe. Not only does it make working here rewarding, it also provides a variety unlike anywhere else. Combined with our supportive and flexible working environment, it's the reason most of our people stay for a substantial part of their careers.

Ensuring we get the most from our resources is critical, which is why we are looking for top finance professionals to become Management Accountants. By identifying best value for money and optimising allocation of resources, you will be instrumental in shaping decisions taken by senior management.

As part of a central team, you will assist with the strategic financial management of MI5's budget. You will also provide support to managers, helping them get the most from their money. By being at the heart of our work, you will become influential in co-ordinating strategy and engagement with other government departments. Your other responsibilities will include:

- Understanding the drivers of cost across MI5 and how we generate value
- Developing performance measures
- Identifying and managing financial risks
- Appraising investment proposals
- Challenging income and expenditure forecasts to improve the quality of information available to senior decision makers
- Helping business areas identify and cut waste in order to create added value

While experience of managing and manipulating information from the ERP systems would be a distinct advantage, it's essential you are a qualified CCAB (or equivalent). As someone who will share advice to inform spending decisions and manage financial risks, you should enjoy building strong relationships with partners and customers. A confident communicator and creative thinker, you also know how to generate innovative solutions and explain the numbers to non-financial managers. You will be able to apply theory and technical skills on a pragmatic basis, as well as translate complex technical information to a range of audiences.
