Principal Electrical Engineer
Principal/Lead Electrical Engineer An opportunity has arisen in the European Electrical Engineering Operations Department for a Principal Electrical Contract Engineer based in Hersham, Surrey. The position encompasses all functional aspects of electrical work on operating plants and includes providing technical guidance and support to electrical engineers, designers, technicians and contractors. The position also involves providing support for commissioning and installation activities. The jobholder will be expected to work on a wide range of electrical equipment including electrical protection relays, low voltage and high voltage distribution systems, large induction and synchronous motors and generators. Other responsibilities may include carrying out plant electrical load studies, motor starting studies, fault level calculations, protection and arc-flash studies. A main emphasis on activities will also lay on providing trouble shooting assistance to field electrical engineers from remote. Applicants should be good team players with a high level of initiative, a good level of practical and theoretical knowledge with good communication skills and the willingness to travel. - To provide electrical engineering functions for various projects at Air Products' throughout Europe including equipment design, engineering and requisition, FAT and installation & commissioning supervision. - To formulate and ensure adherence to the necessary electrical safety and technical standards for the operations group in Europe. - To ensure compliance in all aspects of the job with the requirements of the AP EH&S and the local HSE safety systems. - Site supervision of contractors for operations projects and plant modifications, includes also site support in construction, commissioning and final plant start-up. Knowledge and Experience: - High and low voltage switchgear up to 161kV, various types of motors and generators up to 45MW rated power, transformers up to 100MVA, electronic power equipment for variable speed drive systems and a variety of specialised electronic / electrical equipment. - MV and LV induction & synchronous motors - MV and LV switchgears incl. protection and control - Variable speed drive and soft start systems - Power and distribution transformers - Instrument power distribution with uninterruptible power supply systems - Engineering & Design - Protection and arc-flash studies with SKM/PTW - Planning and scheduling - Technical report writing - Ideally the jobholder will be degree qualified with at least 10 years of experience in the industrial gases or allied industry.
