About the team

The Pursuit and Proposals team are sales specialists working across the UK, who support client teams from first engagement, through the proposal and pitch process, to closing the deal. As a writer and editor, your focus will be on the proposal, but you may get involved in other areas too.

Who we're looking for

Are you are wordsmith? Do you love writing? Are you passionate about attention to detail? Do you have a strange obsession with the misuse of apostrophes and other common grammatical errors? And what about business speak and jargon? Would you love to get your hands on it and turn it in plain English that makes sense? Are you also able to step back and see how content impacts the customer buying journey? Then you might just be who we are looking for.

What you'll be doing

There's lots of variety. You could be writing the executive summary for a FTSE 100 Consulting proposal, guiding the team to their technical knowledge into engaging content. You might be writing messaging for sales propositions. Or you could be making sure that proposals teams are using content to represent PwC in the right way.

You'll be the point of contact for firmwide proposals content. Using our Google-based content platform, you'll work with subject matter experts to respond to queries from across the firm. This platform will be your baby and you'll help drive use, report on adoption, and help manage future projects to develop the application further. There's a huge amount of possibility.

As our guru, may also manage our relationships with our third-party writing services suppliers, dealing with briefs, feedback and reporting. And regularly speaking with counterparts in other countries to see how they're approaching bids and writing to see what we can learn and adopt in the UK.

Your responsibilities
  • Help teams agree the structure of a proposal document to get the most impact
  • Provide guidance to teams and coach them on how to write the proposal, such as brand style, clarity and messaging, use of language, etc
  • Help draft proposal documents from start to finish, including cover letters, executive summaries, team and CV information, and firm experience
  • Review and amend proposal drafts
  • Proof read final documents for grammatical and typographical errors
  • Act as proposals content manager using our internal platforms
  • Take charge of reporting and driving adoption of our proposals content platform and project manage future development
  • Respond promptly to proposals content queries and build networks of SMEs across the firm and overseas
  • Deliver brand writing training
  • Potentially act as relationship manager for our writing agencies

Your skills

You'll have excellent editorial skills, an ability to think commercially and see the bigger picture. You'll need to be able to spot mistakes quickly and edit text without losing important content, but also provide feedback on what you are reading - does it meet the brief and answer the question? You'll need to get stuck in and help re-write sections of documents that teams are struggling with.

The PwC Brand writing style will become one of the tools of your trade and you can get involved with coaching others to write better. There'll be an opportunity to proactively train practice staff on the most effective ways of writing.

It would be great if you have experience of working in professional services and proposals, although not essential. Some project management experience would be good, but as long as you're a good professional writer and editor, the rest can be learnt quite quickly.

  • Ability to build and manage relationships at a senior level, as you'll need to change and influence the behaviour of senior people

  • Ability to switch styles and registers for different projects with different audiences
  • Ability to think strategically about sales and marketing content to think about processes and management
  • Ability to build a network across borders to tap into sales and marketing content and technology trends across the firm
