Product Engineering

are responsible for the technology strategy, architecture, design and engineering for the products that underpin Collaboration Services.

Designing Products and Services that support our colleagues to openly innovate, collaborate effectively and deliver in an agile way, through an evergreen and flexible ecosystem which constantly evolves to provide the required capabilities for Barclays. Leveraging strategic partnerships to enable acceleration and standardisation in line with our business priorities and through ruthless governance and control to maintain efficiency and lean delivery.

The Product Engineering function forms a critical part of the target operating model for the Infrastructure organisation within Barclays, as it become a Services focused function pushing the boundaries of where traditional Financial Services IT organisations have operated.

Role Purpose

The role will place you in a specialised Product team who will engineer strategic and production ready solutions for the Bank. As a product engineer you will at a minimum:
  • Act as an SME for technologies and products within scope
  • Ensure products are correctly configured in line with requirements and designs.
  • Deploy and configure lab infrastructure
  • Produce build and configuration artefacts that will lead to engineering standards
  • Creation of Engineering and Design documentation to enable successful deployment into production..

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensuring engineering activities conform to bank standards and policies.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for in scope technologies
  • Work with other product engineers to ensure the delivered solution meets the defined outcomes
  • Manage a Jira workload in line with strategic direction and incorporating priorities set from above.
  • Supporting Agile working to deliver capability on time and to standards
  • Contribute to design and engineering documents to enable production deployment
  • Produce build and configuration artefacts that will lead to engineering standards

Stakeholder management and leadership

  • Work with Product Owner and Architect to ensure delivery within time/cost/quality constraints
  • Works effectively with people across a wide range of disciplines and levels
  • Integrate into the team and provide advice and guidance as appropriate to support the success of the function

Decision making and problem solving.

  • Analysis of requirements and using knowledge and experience to engineer solutions against requirements.
  • Analysis of working practices and development of proactive/innovative solutions that benefit both the aligned and wider team.
  • Drive forward efficiencies and automation within own technology
  • Propose creative solutions to challenging problems such as time and cost constraints to continually move towards the strategic end state.

Person Specification

Technology Skills

  • Specific experience in a number of the following areas
  • Azure Active Directory
  • Azure Management Portal
  • Identity Management
  • Authentication and Authorisation models
  • Modern Authentication methods (JWT's, Federation, Access Tokens)
  • Azure Information Protection
  • Azure / AD RMS

  • Ability to rapidly assimilate new technologies
  • Scripting and automation
  • Strong understanding of information security
  • Understanding of cloud based services and the impact on delivery and change management

Non Technology Skills

  • Previous experience in an engineering role desired but not essential
  • Ability to work with in a rapidly changing environment - where goals and objectives often change at short notice.
  • Having the confidence to determine your own objectives that fit within the wider team goals, rather than rely on being instructed all the time.
  • Having a positive, can do, persistent attitude, even when the cards are stacked against you.
  • Working in an Agile environment
