About Finance

BP&A Finance is responsible for the delivery of commercial planning and regulatory stress testing processes at both a business and Group level. In addition BP&A Finance are responsible for completing the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting processes. Finally, BP&A Finance are responsible for ensuring delivery of change as appropriate to meet evolving business and regulatory requirements.

Overall purpose of role

To assist the Management Reporting team in providing the highest standard of reporting and analysis of results and forecasts for the Group Financial Review Committee, Executive Committee and the Board, working effectively with Group and Cluster BP&A teams and Group Functions. The role requires a strong focus on data quality, process governance and analytical and reporting ability

Key Accountabilities

Managing the Group wide WTU/Outlook Process (70%)
  • Assist in the production of Weekly Trading Updates and Board Reports, specifically by managing the coordination and production of financial data and analysis
  • Provide relationship management support facing-off with business areas to ensure review and challenge of business performance; develop in-depth knowledge of designated businesses including strategic goals and commercial environment, key sub-businesses and products, as well as financial performance history and outlook
  • Take direct ownership for certain areas of the reporting process, including (and not limited to) data collection, processing, interlock and production of underlying financial data sets
  • Ensure strong process is in place with strong control environment, in order to deliver accurate information in a timely manner and to the highest standards, allowing time for review by line manager and Head of BP&A
  • Liaise with Clusters and Group Function teams such as Tax, Treasury and Risk to coordinate the production of financial management reports
  • Carry-out qualitative and quantitative performance analysis, in particular variance to budget and prior year for P&L, ratios and returns
  • Provide insightful analysis around key business drivers, key performance indicators and one-off items. Conduct ad hoc analysis, developing scenario analysis and models (eg FX impact)
  • Develop subject matter expertise in agreed technical/business/functional areas (e.g. costs, RemCo, monthly business reviews) and act as point of contact on these for key stakeholders
  • Prepare strong communications with internal and cluster stakeholders at VP and Director level, in particular setting clear guidelines to clusters for deliverables and negotiating timely delivery
  • Presentation: prepare reports and communicate conclusions effectively to VP and Directors in the team focusing on key themes
  • Focus on messaging that can drive the agenda, often to the most senior audiences across Group Finance
  • Managing urgent requests in the absence of senior team members

Data and Process Management (20%)
  • Work closely with the offshore/Operations teams to manage the underlying management reporting data processes in a strong and controlled environment
  • Work closely with the financial control team and Group cluster BP&A teams in managing the month-end ledger reconciliation process
  • Pro-actively manage and develop reporting processes across the team
  • Look to constantly challenge Barclays processes and drive improvements in efficiency and effectiveness of processes. In particular adapt deliverables, tools and process for new reporting requirements from Management or regulators (presentational, restatement/parallel reporting, Structural Reform)
  • Seek to identify and influence the adoption of best practices
  • Attending key management and strategic forums where required to present processes

External Reporting Support (10%)
  • Review and challenge performance commentary and results announcement presentations/support materials provide by Group Clusters
  • Provide analysis around key business issues that impact the presentation of Groups external results

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

The role holder will be required to manage stakeholders primarily across Group and Business finance teams, as well as Treasury and Risk

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Person Specification

Strong analytical skills
  • Fin ancial forecasting & analysis or audit experience with financial services preferred
  • Good understanding of financial accountancy
  • Strong in excel (powerpoint also helpful)
  • Comfortable working with systems and large amounts of data e.g. Hyperion, Oracle, SAP
