Our Group Sales, International department is looking for a Middle East Sales Manager to join them for a fixed term contract of 9 months. The purpose of the role is to maintain and build customer relationships in assigned territories, develop new business and to achieve pre-agreed budgets. The territories covered: UAE, Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Iran and Turkey. Will also cover Africa (excluding South Africa) for US. All HCUK and HCUS Adult and Children's, HC360 titles from ANZ, Canada & India, HCCP, and Harlequin NA will be covered. Additionally, the role requires a minimum of 6 weeks travel to markets a year, plus attendance at relevant book fairs.


Account Management

  • Maintain excellent customer relationships, be the first point of contact for customer issues
  • To ensure all titles are subscribed to target
  • Provide regular sales information to customers both during meetings and from office
  • Develop market plans for territories and key customers
  • Plan and execute travel to markets as agreed with Sales Director & attend relevant book fairs
  • Manage retail placement and promotions, working with US & UK marketing managers to allocate spend
  • Responsible for achieving sales budgets and targets
  • Research, identify, and contact potential new customers


  • Good knowledge of titles across all Divisions
  • Awareness of pricing needs
  • Feedback on upcoming titles potential sales and promotions in meetings and reports for publishing teams
  • UK Divisional Champion for Children's
  • Ensure we have the best sales material for all types of accounts
  • Contribute information to third party shared title grid
  • Contribute towards open market newsletters and exec reports, sharing photographs and market/customer feedback


  • Maintain customer contact list
  • Submit expenses in a timely manner
  • Complete Gift & Entertainment register in accordance with policy
  • Review base terms and net prices/extra discount requests regularly
  • Provide an itinerary in advance of sales trips and a trip report after every sales trip
  • Plan and book sales trips within the allocated T&E budget

Key Skills/Experience

  • A sales professional with experience of managing trade accounts
  • Fluent English
  • Must be customer focused
  • Proven commercial acumen, being aware of competition and maintaining strategic advantage whilst balancing profitability
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent IT skills


  • At least 6 months' experience of selling trade titles to customers in Middle East markets
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Skills to seek out sales opportunities and turn ideas in to profitable sales
  • Drive for efficiencies across all ways of working
