Overall purpose of role

Leading, partnering and managing Personal Banking and Mortgages across BUK Operations, driving business and financial performance through the setting financial strategy, integrating it with the business strategy and setting appropriate targets and challenges:

  • Lead the development and implementation of best practice in financial processes and link across Group O&T Finance to share best practice
  • Understand the commercial drivers of the business function
  • Provide highly effective performance management information, commercially challenging key business decisions through analysis of the financial and business implications of such decisions
  • Prepare and ensure the completeness and accuracy of, the books and records for the respective Function / Business Units, reporting externally and to Senior Management, whilst advancing the firm's aspirations in a controlled manner
  • Provide business support using accurate, timely and reliable MI / Analytics to enhance the quality of decision making. The team drives the firms overall budget process and supports regular forecasting and accurate reporting


The complexity of the cost base covered by the team requires a deep understanding of the functions and business units and their cost drivers

Key Accountabilities

Partnering, Strategy & Planning (35%)
  • Deep and technical business partnering - build and develop FBP relationships across Ops and Central Operations and Technology teams
  • Drive the completion of the annual Budget and Planning processes
  • Manage the financial planning to transition the Operations function to the newly formed ServCo
  • Steering the business to the optimal structure in preparation for the new trading entity billing process
  • Production of Financial Projections to support Flash submissions and identification of Risks and Opportunities
  • Implementation and embedding specific financial targets
  • Regular P&L Forecasting updates and month end P&L analysis and commentary
  • Oversee deep dive analytics for change related projects (e.g. accrual process improvements, BSS invoicing and booking, etc)
  • Provide 'on demand' insightful analytics across P&L & BS


Decision Support 30%
  • Evaluate business decision / proposals and provide support for the production of function investment proposals / business cases
  • Review delivery of benefits from approved projects
  • Support monthly headcount tracking and reporting, investigation of discrepancies


Business Performance Management 30 %
  • Analyse and interpret past and projected future business performance, monitoring and evaluating actual to target performance
  • Provide professional financial commentary on performance and present regular performance reports to Business senior leadership team, recommending corrective action and performance improvement opportunities as appropriate
  • The short to medium-term focus of the team is around transparency of cost reporting and process improvement and efficiencies across the group structure
  • Reporting on monthly results to sub-functional levels, tailoring feedback as appropriate - providing financial commentary on all areas of responsibility


Financial Control (5%)
  • To challenge plans to commit costs, identifying areas for cost efficiency and managing the delivery of benefits
  • Delivering robust financial rigour to establish full control, optimisation of all balances and opportunities, and ensure that in conjunction with Financial Control, any audit or control issues identified are addressed and remediated in a timely and appropriate manner


Risk and Control Objective

Person Specification

Business & Function Knowledge and Skills & Competencies
  • Proven experience of supporting business areas within a client facing business partner role - ideally in a similar organisation in Technology or Operations or Product/Financial Control areas
  • Proven ability of providing high quality financial support at senior management level
  • Able to support the business in the process of making key business decisions
  • Able to assimilate complex financial data to support business decision making and providing decision support at senior management level
  • Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent relevant experience e.g. CIMA, ACCA with strong post qualified experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Finance and how it operates, and integrates into wider business
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and being able to see the macro picture
  • Attention to detail on critical deliverables and analytically minded
  • Tenacious and control focused
  • Strong team ethic
  • Cost Control and Budgeting knowledge or general BP&A experience
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Very good communication skills, written and interpersonal, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships
