The Barclays UK Finance team is a lively environment supporting current businesses and the implementation of the Barclays UK business strategy, as well as preparing the organisation for the establishment of the ring-fenced UK bank.

The Barclays UK Business Performance & Analytics (BP&A) work closely with the Barclays Finance CFO teams (as well as Financial Control, Tax, Treasury and Risk) to support the decision making process of the Executive teams by providing high quality decision support, insight, performance reporting and analysis.

The Barclays UK Driver Based Modelling (DBM) Programme within BP&A is a programme dedicated to driving continuous improvement in modelling capability across BUK, remediating BUK Finance models under the Group Model Risk Policy and managing Model Risk for the BUK Finance function

Role Purpose

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dedicated team tasked with enhancing BUK modelling capabilities. This team has been created in response to the increasing requirements regarding Model Risk Management being stipulated by the PRA and consequentially Barclays Group. Reporting to the Programme Lead for the Driver Based Modelling programme, the primary purpose of this role will be;
  • Provide air traffic control for BUK and be the key point of contact for Group Finance, The Independent Valuation Unit (IVU), PRA, Group Model Risk Management (MRM) with regards to any queries regarding BUK Model Inventory and Model Risk Management
  • To be the key BUK governance and documentation lead for the project at every stage of a model development lifecycle and regular conformance testing
  • To understand, interpret and apply pragmatic solutions for the implementation and adherence to the GMRP and its standards (8 standards currently) and the MRM Framework
  • Proactively partner both Group MRM and IVU as well as the Model Owners / BUK Finance in terms of continuous assessment and conformance testing of the UK Model landscape & remediation plans

Key Accountabilities
  • Model Risk Lead for BUK Finance with senior level engagement (CFO, FD, CEO) with regards to driving the BUK Finance Model Risk agenda
  • Ambassador of the BUK Driver Based Modelling& Model Risk Management program, ensuring that the model risk framework is communicated in a simple, clear and concise way throughout the firm
  • Assessment of all BUK Finance Models subject to regulatory Model Risk Management policies / standards and developing plans for remediation
  • Working with specific business, risk and finance areas to lead conformance reviews evaluating compliance with MRM requirements, ensuring appropriate conclusions
  • Monitor conformance and identify any material weaknesses across Business areas
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with other risk practices, finance and the business, to ensure that new or amended procedures and standards are identified and appropriate alterations are made to the conformance work program
  • Ownership of traceability and coordination of all model development, data, process, and project governance requirements
  • Operational Liaison with other relevant Barclays Regulatory programs
  • Accountability for documentation requirements and delivery
  • Delivery of documented review & challenge sessions related to model development and results
  • Establishing training material and communicating with individuals subject to the policy to ensure the scope of the policy is clear to all constituents

Stakeholder Management and Leadership
  • Stakeholders will include DBM Programme Director, Key Risk Officers, Chief Risk Officers and Chief Financial Officers throughout the firm, as well as individual model owners, members of the Independent Validation Unit and others within the firm assisting the above in complying with the Model Risk Management framework.

Person Specification

Essential skills / qualifications:
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently
  • Experience building, maintaining and using Excel based financial models in either Risk, Finance or Treasury functions
  • Experience with financial planning and analysis, bank-related capital concepts and key risks facing large bank holding companies.
  • Very good communication skills, written and verbal, with a collaborative style and the ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to effectively speak for the business and represent the different work streams
  • Conflict resolution in a high-pressure environment
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in an analytical discipline or risk management area (Engineering, Economics, Finance), or equivalent experience
  • PC skills - Very good competence in the use of Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint

Desirable skills / qualifications:
  • Qualified accountant (UK or US) or similar qualification
  • Experience in project / change management
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Regulatory / Compliance experience and demonstrated experience driving results across matrixed teams in a Finance, Treasury or Risk Management function.
  • Understanding of different financial systems (preferably in use within Barclays) and has past experience of designing new processes
  • Risk management technical and practical knowledge to help design an effective and high quality risk management control environment.
  • An understanding of either the Barclays internal control and risk management frameworks, primarily the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Group Model Risk Policy
