Job Title: BA4 Treasury Finance Hedge Accounting
Canary Wharf, London
The Hedge Accounting Analyst will assist the VP Hedge Accountant to perform monthly reporting, journal preparation and review, disclosures, and ad hoc project work for our strategic reform programme. The role will rotate between responsibilities to gain exposure across treasury in a technical hedge accounting function. The role holder will partner with Front Office, risk management functions, and the Product Control teams to build and maintain complex hedge arrangements to control income volatility from the Group Treasury derivative book.
Hedge Accounting team is responsible for working with Treasury in managing interest rate risk on banking book and ensuring that hedge accounting process and reporting is in compliance with the relevant accounting standards.
This role will cover the following:
- running month end process in relation to FV hedges, including analysing hedge effectiveness results, posting the required journals, and performing reconciliation to attest the validity of balances in the ledger
- preparing monthly, quarterly and annual disclosures for various balance sheet and P&L hedge accounting balances
- assisting businesses with ad-hoc queries related to hedge accounting
- assisting the team in Chennai, when required, in building cashflow and fair value hedges in line with the existing risk management methodology
- ensuring controls and processes reflect changes in business practices and are kept up to date
- assisting Structural Reform team in implementing improvements to the existing hedge accounting system
- assisting in building bespoke hedge arrangements for other business functions
- supporting delivery of ad hoc projects
Numerical degree (2.1 or above) or equivalent
Qualified chartered accountant with good level of financial instruments accounting knowledge (IAS39)
Basic knowledge of hedge accounting is desirable
Good working knowledge of Microsoft office applications, strong Excel skills in particular
Strong written and communication skills
Proven analytical skills
Diligent with attention to details
Demonstrate appreciation of controls, process enhancement and improvement
Treasury Finance experience an advantage
The Treasury function is aligned in a matrix structure around Global Disciplines (Capital & Leverage; Transfer Pricing; Funding & Liquidity; Capital Markets Execution; Treasury Funding & Investment) and Global Services (Investment Banking Coverage; Banking Book Coverage; Planning & Forecasting; Balance Sheet Analytics; Treasury Transformation; Structural Reform; COO).
The Treasury function is responsible for the management and execution of the Group's capital, funding and liquidity risks and requirements to meet its purpose which is to balance the supply and demand of money and capital to create sustainable value.
Within Treasury Finance, the Hedge Accounting team provides finance support and control to manage the P&L volatility on Group Treasury's interest rate portfolio. This is done through the use of cashflow and fair value hedge accounting.
