Purpose of role Dentons' Banking and Finance Group is seeking an experienced transactional finance lawyer to join its existing professional support lawyer team in London. The role will combine general support for Dentons' 27 partner Banking and Finance practice in London, with a particular focus on supporting our general transactional banking group within it (primarily covering leveraged finance, real estate finance, fund finance, global lending and restructuring). The role will also involve support for other Dentons finance teams globally practising English law, for example in the Gulf and in continental Europe. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for building greater community connections between local professional support lawyers and knowledge management professionals at local, regional and global level. This role would suit a 5 year pqe transactional banking lawyer looking to transition in to an innovative, commercially focussed PSL role, or an experienced PSL. Responsibilities Precedents You will work with the other members of the Banking and Finance PSL team (and relevant partners) to maintain and expand the existing wide-ranging suite of transactional banking precedents. You will also be involved in using document automation to widen our precedent database and streamline production of deal documents. Current awareness and horizon scanning With others, you will help share information - both internally and with clients - about key legal developments affecting transactional banking and financial institutions more generally. Training You will contribute to our wide range of internal and client training programmes by organising, writing and delivering training sessions. There may be opportunity to present training sessions overseas, both to colleagues and to clients. Legal service delivery and innovation You will contribute to the team's drive to streamline our processes while ensuring we continue to deliver the best quality advice to our clients. This may involve participating or organising trials of technological products and using document automation tools to speed up document production. Transactional support As an integral part of our Banking and Finance Group, you can expect to regularly provide advice or act as a sounding board for transactional queries, ranging from basic questions from trainees to complex structuring queries from partners and other experiences lawyers. Additional Responsibilities Liaising with global, regional and local professional support lawyers, business development lawyers and knowledge management professionals serving other practice/industry groups, sharing best practices with them and learning from them. Identifying knowledge-related services which might be utilized to deepen the Banking & Finance Group's relationships with key clients as part of the firm's overall client relationship management efforts. Required experience, skills and attributes Technical Skills Strong academic credentials English law qualified solicitor with current practising certificate At least 5 years PQE experience in transactional banking gained in a top tier firm environment and ideally across a range of practice areas, with experience of working for both lenders and borrowers Excellent technical skills, with a strong grounding in the fundamentals of English contract, guarantee and security law, and an ability to apply those fundamentals practically and commercially Good understanding and familiarity with the most common types of legal documents arising in banking transactions, including LMA-based facility agreements, intercreditor agreements, security documents and legal opinions Strong legal research and excellent legal drafting skills Personal attributes Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the confidence to present well in a multi-cultural environment Excellent time management and organisational skills Able to present information concisely and professionally Self-starter who is able to demonstrate a proactive and positive attitude to their work Keen to learn and develop, demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication Innovative and client-focused in the use of delivery media Dedicated to exceptional client service and demonstrates market focus Strong financial and business awareness Excellent problem solving and decision making skills Demonstrates good judgment and resilience skills Shows strong initiative and drive and takes control of own career development Language Capabilities We are a truly global law firm and as such, always welcome hearing from those with foreign language capabilities.
