About the Job
Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications sectors and we are globally respected for the work we do. Our aim is to make communications work for everyone.

We have 4 core values we expect all our colleagues to live:

  • Excellence - quality is absolutely at the heart of everything Ofcom does, now and in the future.
  • Collaboration - knitting teams together, sharing information and recognising we are all working towards our shared goal
  • Empowerment- how do we ensure decisions are taken at the right level in the organisation? How can we make colleagues feel they are nurtured and supported to take on that responsibility?
  • Agility - working in a flexible and timely fashion so that we have real impact.
The Strategy and Policy team is part of the SITE Group, which incorporates the Strategy and Policy, International, Technology and Chief Economist teams. The Group works closely with the four policy Groups in Ofcom (Competition Policy, Spectrum, Consumer Group as well as Content and Standards), providing specialist resource. The key responsibilities of the Strategy & Policy team are:

  • Market and policy insight - maintaining Ofcom's understanding of how the communications sector may develop in future, to inform our overall duties and wider policy programme for consumers and businesses.
  • Delivering Ofcom's strategic priorities - leading major projects that affect the future strategic direction of the sector or Ofcom. Examples include the Strategic Review of Digital Communications and preparing to regulate the BBC.
  • Thought leadership on emerging policyissues - working collaboratively with the rest of Ofcom to define Ofcom's position on new or cross-cutting competition, consumer, or public policy issues.
  • Ofcom's corporate strategy - working with the Executive and the Board to help define Ofcom's priorities, measuring delivery and working with others to understand and shape our future remit. There are increasing demands on Ofcom in the areas above given the increasing focus on Communications sector policy and increasing sector convergence. This context provides the Strategy & Policy team unique opportunities to help shape Ofcom's and the sector's future development. We are looking to recruit high calibre candidates to help Ofcom deliver against these demands. We have a number of Associate roles available in the team.
The job holder should have a strong interest in and understanding of the market context which informs Ofcom's policy making, and should be able to use strategic and analytical skills to identify and address policy issues.
