This is a unique opportunity lead an internationally respected team, influencing transport security policy through science and technology.

The Department for Transport is bringing Britain closer together and boosting economic growth and opportunity by improving journeys and ensuring safe, secure and sustainable transport. Working closely with partners across Government, the transport industry and internationally, our Transport Security Coordination and Operational Response Directorate is instrumental in improving transport security, and delivering the Government's counter-terrorism strategy.

You will lead a team of scientists to deliver robust evidence and advice to transport security policy makers in DfT, building the team's capability to deliver during a time of greatly increased demand. You will attract and retain talent in the team to deliver for the long term. Using your reputation as a technical expert you will influence and leverage UK and international research to deliver DfT requirements. You will advise Minsters and senior officials where science and technology is key to the decision-making process, often in a fast-paced environment.

You will have an understanding of the National and International research landscape with experience of leading teams of technical experts to deliver outcomes. You will have a flair for innovation and delivering change, with excellent communication skills to deliver complex technical information to senior management and Ministers both verbally and in writing.
