Programme Manager, Community Programmes
Do you have experience of working with vulnerable groups in the not-for-profit or education sector? We are recruiting a Programme Manager to lead our community programme development, securing funding for and delivering activity with partners including prisons, young offender institutions, schools and community groups. This role will be based in our communities and local areas team, and will manage the delivery of Books Unlocked (our flagship prison and YOI programme) as well as the development and delivery of other social action programmes and pilot projects. This is a permanent post, subject to further funding being secured to support programme development and delivery beyond the first year. One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can't succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five. We are a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. Our research and analysis make us the leading authority on literacy. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life. As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary. This role is based in London SW8. Closing date: 10am, Monday 25 September 2017. Please note we do not accept CVs. No agencies or recruitment sites. Registered charity no. (England and Wales) and SC042944 (Scotland).
