Job Purpose:

- A highly visible role with significant responsibility in providing successful assurance over leading & providing support for the Regulations & Connections engagements of the Assurance Schedule
- You'll be accountable and responsible of the end to end delivery of the different Regulations & Connections engagements assigned to you in all phases including, planning, stakeholder management, engagement management, reporting, close-out of all activities (with relevant liaison with the Regulations & Connections Assurance Manager)
- You'll have aim to provide continuous support and innovative ideas in order to improve the Regulatory & Connections assurance area by developing best practice assurance approaches over regulatory risk

Dimensions:

- Staff: None
- Stakeholders: Head of Risk & Assurance, all Risk & Assurance Managers, Risk & Assurance colleagues, colleagues being audited, and including EMT level
- Ensuring high quality delivery of the different projects from the Regulations & Connections portfolio assigned to you

Principal Accountabilities:

- Undertake the end to end audit process, including planning, fieldwork and reporting, to support of the relevant reviews from the Regulations & Connections plan, as well as, the wider audit plan that have been assigned to you either as Lead or Assisting.
- Follow with the Risk & Assurance methodology for Internal Assurance work - "Ways of Working"
- Document findings and propose root cause analysis in Issue Sheets and write Audit Reports
- Perform Design of Control Analysis and create Test Sheets for execution in the reviews
- Own follow up to Internal Audit actions and test implementation of management actions to address audit issues and proactively engage to push them through to closure
- Establish and maintain excellent relations with key stakeholders such as key personnel from Regulations and Connections departments
- Provide best practice risk & control advice and guidance as required (as per level of experience, bring something new to the team)

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

- Chartered Accountant, Lawyer or Engineer (preferred)
- Over 3 year experience with experience in Internal Audit / Risk Management / Compliance areas, preferably with Big 4 experience
- Highly developed skills in risk assessment and control framework design
- Understanding of the regulatory framework within which UKPN operates
- Exceptional communication skills; both written and verbal
- Personal credibility to interact at senior (SMT / EMT) level
- Role models the UKPN values of Respect, Integrity, Diversity & Inclusion, Unity, Continuous Improvement, and Responsibility
- Proactive mindset - constantly seeking out efficiencies and improvements
- Knowledge in data analytics (preferred)
- Strong influencer and good negotiating skills (preferred)
- Deep understanding of the UKPN business, and wider developments in the industry

Nature and Scope:

The job holder is responsible for ensuring that all work within their portfolio is completed on time, within budget, to high quality standards (in accordance with the departmental methodology) and fulfils the requirements of the scope. The job holder will have extensive involvement in all aspects of the planning, execution, and reporting on Regulatory & Connections assurance engagements.

The job holder's principal challenge will be assessing the adequacy of UKPN's risk management and control frameworks within the Regulatory & Connections area, as our industry goes through a period of rapid change in regulation, technology, evolving customer expectations, and transitioning to a low-carbon society. Evaluating the risks and opportunities these changes present, and ensuring UKPN is well placed to capitalise on the opportunities and mitigate the risks, will require the job holder to remain abreast of external developments, as well as peer group assurance plans
