Job Purpose


As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you are required to have a unique skill set over a broad range of technologies in the security space. You will be creative and adaptable to help make our systems more secure.

You will have the opportunity to have a major impact on improving various security systems across our network as well as designing the architecture for new toolsets such as intrusion detection systems and SIEM's.

Responsibilities
  • Primary interface to develop the CSIRT toolset for detection & remediation of advanced threats
  • Develop security monitoring for cloud environments
  • Become the technical expert for security related tools used for cyber security incident response & investigations
  • Automate common tasks & processes with the use of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Build on to existing toolsets used for incident response and cyber security investigations.
  • Liaising with business stake holders in designing and evaluating secure solutions.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the internal security framework and CPNI cyber security principles SANS 20 controls and promote the associated security service model.
  • Determine the appropriate use and benefits of new and existing technologies to security SCADA and IT environments.
  • Contribute to the development of security standards and architectural patterns in order to adopt a consistent approach to security design
Knowledge Skills and Experience
  • Understand the basic concepts of SIEM and IDS tools
  • Good understanding of cloud computing from providers such as AWS and Azure
  • Strong programming skills with experience in any of PowerShell, python or Perl.
  • A working understanding of a wide array of security technologies, latest threats and vulnerabilities around IT environments.
  • Experience in understanding complex applications and system interactions and deployments within complex organisations.
  • Practical experience creating/reviewing engineering designs and enhancing solutions against company standards.
  • Ideally have knowledge of multiple operating systems including Windows and Linux/UNIX
  • Practical experience implementing/assessing risk against company standards and threat modelling.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills, employing appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement and demonstrating both empathy and assertiveness when communicating a need or defending a position.
  • Relevant analytical thinking skills, identifying many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.
