Development, Technology and Innovation Policy MPA

This unique Master's of Public Administration degree provides professionals working in international development with the practical tools and skills to collaborate on policy that responds to the need for balanced growth, social wellbeing and environmental protection in developing countries.

Graduates of this MPA gain tools, skills and insights to work at the interface between science, technology, engineering and public policy in a local, national or international context.

They also develop an understanding of the complex and varied systems, institutions and frameworks that underpin policy in developing countries, and learn how to apply practical and analytic skills to a range of real policy problems, build innovation systems and engage in policy experimentation. A final project will involve collaborating with a real client on a relevant policy problem.

Graduates are equipped to work in the public, private or third sector in order to to harness scientific and technological innovation, transform economies and improve human wellbeing. Future career destinations include government agencies, corporate regulatory affairs departments or advocacy groups doing legislative, regulatory or policy analysis. Students also gain relevant experience to move into policy-focused roles within the science, technology or engineering sectors.

Through the MPA programme, students will:

  • gain a greater awareness of current issues in international and national policy relating to developing countries
  • develop a greater awareness of the knowledge systems underpinning successful policy-making processes
  • learn how to communicate with scientists and engineers, policymakers and industry experts
  • develop the skills to mobilise science and technology knowledge to address the societal challenges they care about.
