Summary of responsibilities:

The Financial Controller - we are accountable for all activities that fall under the responsibility of their Accounting finance team based on the management services agreements for PFI/renewable energy project companies.

This role has specific focus on the line management of, development and resource planning for their team of 11 staff members.

Key responsibilities:

- Participate in the development of the finance function, team and systems.
- Ensure compliance with contractual documentations and all agreed programmes and procedures.
- Oversee the timely delivery of the team's activities and ensure a consistent and compliant approach.
- Review management accounts, monthly audit files, VAT returns, CIS returns and other reports prepared by the team.
- Provide instruction to the team in respect of the monthly accounting processes.
- Manage the statutory audit process in line with the timetable.
- Prepare and review statutory accounts.
- Performance management and development of the team members in accordance with processes and resources.
- Provide training to new starters and monthly training and development sessions to the team.
- Resource management and planning for the team members including recruitment and cover for periods of absence.
- Perform management accountant duties on one or two projects and provide cover for the team when necessary.
- Manage and maintain the project related contract archive and supporting documents.
- Review and approve loan note and dividend payments prepared by the Management Accountant ahead of submission.
- Review the draft tax and manage the relationship with tax advisers.
- Undertake the office management duties.
- Manage ad hoc reporting activities for the Deputy Director of Finance- Accounting.
- Manage activity to comply with monitored communications procedures.
- Carry out other duties that fall within professional expertise.

Person Specification

EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE

- At least 2 years post qualified experience.
- Experience in communicating, influencing and presenting at all levels.
- Proven record in the management and development of the supporting team.
- Experience working within a compliance focussed environment.
- Ability to identify potential issues in respect of a piece of complex legislation or policy and provide clear and comprehensive verbal and written analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of financial management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
- Current membership of a recognised accounting body.
