They may be living and working far from their home but still manage to send money back to support their loved ones.Large international wire transfer companies and banks have been taking advantage of people like this by charging preposterous fees and unfair rates.With the World Bank estimating $575 billion annually flowing into developing countries - transforming the remittance industry could have a greater impact on international development than every single government aid program combined.WorldRemit is using innovative technology and growing its global network to make transferring money easier, fairer and more affordable.SkillsLaw, Legal, Business Law, legal advisorSectorsRole OverviewThe role is extremely broad, encompassing a wide range of commercial contract and legal advisory work (including regulatory), with a truly international focus.You will be expected to become familiar with the array of money transfer regulations and other applicable laws (e.g. consumer laws) that apply to WorldRemit, working with other internal teams including Global Compliance to help the business apply for new money transfer licences; maintain existing licenses and proactively spot and resolve issues (in both our send and receive countries).A key area of support will be to WorldRemit's Global Business Development team (led by Tamer El-Emary, Chief Partnerships Officer, formerly of Amex and Mastercard). This team is responsible for building WorldRemit's network of overseas partners, who pay out recipients of money transfers on our behalf in over 140 countries and is a key driver of company growth. See below the job description for some more information about this team.You will support the London-based Technology, Product Development and Marketing teams as well as well as Global Compliance to help enhance WorldRemit's product offering and ensure the company's services are being marketed effectively and compliantly.You will also work closely with our UK-based Finance team (which Legal forms a part of) and the newly-created Risk team.You will be able to carve out your own areas of specialism and build your own stakeholder relationships from day one. As the Legal team is small, you will play a key role within the team in supporting other team members and raising the profile of the team within the organisation and externally.Profile OverviewWe are looking for an enthusiastic lawyer with solid proven commercial legal skills as well as knowledge or interest in financial regulation. You will be used to an in-house environment and be ready to hit the ground running at a fast-growing FinTech. We operate in around 200 countries and so someone with international experience and a real willingness to engage with different cultures and styles is key.The role will involve briefing very senior stakeholders so somebody who understand the importance of seeing the big picture and using the right tone and language to discuss legal issues will be key.Last but not least, intellectual curiosity and desire for breadth of workload is important. You will rarely encounter the same issues each day and the right candidate for this role will see that as an advantage.Skills, Experience and AttributesQualified Solicitor with excellent academic credentials (minimum 2:1)In-house commercial experience (ideally in financial services)Desire for a broad focus and to learn something new every dayTraining from a top 20 UK firmAbility to work efficiently and devote the right amount of time to a matter based on a self-determined materiality thresholdAbility to remain calm under pressureNatural commercialityIdeally 5+ years PQE (at least 2 years in-house)Hands-on "can do" attitudeExcellent relationship building / interpersonal skillsAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced ever-expanding environmentGood communication skills, both oral and written including an eye for detailForeign language skills (especially French and Spanish) highly desirableAbility to summarise issues succinctly and be flexible and pragmatic with advice
